Waiver & Gym Rules

Legacy Boxing — 477 Cobequid Rd, Unit 4, Lower Sackville, NS B4C 4E9 · 902-412-1275 · realboxinglegacy@gmail.com

Boxing is a contact sport. Please read this document in full before agreeing to it. By registering you confirm that you have read, understood, and accepted every section below.
1. Assumption of Risk

I understand that boxing and boxing-style fitness training are physically demanding activities that carry inherent risks which cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken. These risks include, but are not limited to: bruising, cuts and lacerations, sprains and strains, dental injury, broken bones, joint and ligament damage, eye injury, concussion and other head injuries, heat exhaustion, cardiac events, permanent disability, and death.

I understand these risks arise from my own actions, the actions of others, the condition of the equipment and facility, and from contact with training partners during drills, controlled sparring, and competition. I knowingly and voluntarily assume all such risks, both known and unknown.

2. Medical Fitness and Disclosure

I confirm that I am medically fit to take part in boxing training, and that I have disclosed on my registration form all medical conditions, medications, allergies, injuries, and prior head injuries relevant to my participation. I agree to notify Legacy Boxing promptly and in writing if any of this information changes.

I understand Legacy Boxing coaches are not medical professionals and that nothing said by a coach constitutes medical advice. I have been advised to consult a physician before beginning any new training program, and I accept full responsibility for that decision.

3. Head Injury and Concussion Protocol

I understand that any suspected concussion results in immediate removal from all training. A member removed for a suspected concussion may not return to contact training without written medical clearance from a qualified physician. I agree to report any blow to the head, and any symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, memory loss, or sensitivity to light or noise, to a coach immediately — whether the symptoms arose at the gym or elsewhere.

I understand that concealing a head injury endangers me and may result in the termination of my membership.

4. Emergency Medical Treatment

I authorize Legacy Boxing staff to arrange emergency medical treatment, including ambulance transport, if they judge it necessary. I accept financial responsibility for the cost of any such treatment or transport. I understand that staff will attempt to contact the emergency contact named on my registration, but that treatment will not be delayed in order to do so.

5. Release of Liability

In consideration of being permitted to train at Legacy Boxing, I release, waive, and discharge Legacy Boxing, its owners, coaches, instructors, employees, volunteers, and other members from any and all liability, claims, demands, and causes of action arising out of or related to any loss, damage, injury, or death sustained while on the premises or taking part in any Legacy Boxing activity, whether on site or at an away event, tournament, or competition.

I agree that this release is binding on me, my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns. I understand this release does not apply to gross negligence or wilful misconduct, and that nothing in this document limits any right that cannot be waived under the laws of Nova Scotia.

6. Gym Rules — Conduct
  • Respect is required at all times — toward coaches, toward training partners, and toward the gym itself.
  • Coach instructions are followed immediately and without argument. Safety depends on it.
  • No fighting, aggression, showboating, or settling personal disputes in the gym. Ever.
  • Boxing skills are for the gym and for sanctioned competition only. Using what you learn here outside those settings is grounds for permanent expulsion.
  • No foul or abusive language, harassment, bullying, discrimination, or intimidation of any kind.
  • No alcohol, recreational drugs, or performance-enhancing substances on the premises or before training.
  • Members who arrive intoxicated or under the influence will be sent home.
7. Gym Rules — Training and Safety
  • No sparring without a coach present and without explicit coach permission.
  • Protective equipment is mandatory for all contact work: mouthguard, headgear, and appropriate gloves. Groin protection is required for male athletes; chest protection is available on request.
  • Hands must be properly wrapped before bag or pad work.
  • Never use equipment you have not been shown how to use.
  • Report damaged equipment to a coach rather than continuing to use it.
  • Sparring intensity is set by the coach, not by the athletes. Controlled means controlled.
  • Stop immediately when a coach calls time or says stop.
8. Gym Rules — Hygiene and Facility
  • Arrive clean, in clean training clothes, with short fingernails and toenails.
  • Indoor training shoes only — no outdoor footwear on the gym floor or in the ring.
  • Wipe down equipment after use. Return everything to where it belongs.
  • No jewellery, watches, or piercings during training.
  • Long hair must be tied back.
  • Anyone with an open wound, skin infection, or contagious illness must stay home until cleared.
  • Bring a labelled water bottle. No food in the training area.
9. Attendance, Punctuality, and Minors

Arrive on time and ready to train; latecomers may be asked to wait for a safe break before joining. Members are expected to complete the full session including warm-up and cool-down.

For members under 18: a parent or guardian is responsible for drop-off and pick-up, and must ensure a coach is present before leaving a child at the gym. Legacy Boxing does not provide supervision outside scheduled session times. Guardians should remain reachable at the phone number on file for the duration of the session.

10. Fees, Billing, and Cancellation
  • Program fees are billed monthly in advance, plus applicable tax.
  • An annual registration fee applies to each member and is billed with the first month.
  • Recurring payments continue until you stop them. You may request cancellation at any time using the link in your registration email; cancellation takes effect once Legacy Boxing confirms it.
  • Fees already processed are not refunded automatically. Refund requests are considered case by case.
  • Missed sessions are not credited, refunded, or carried forward.
  • A place in a program is held only while fees are current.
  • Fees may change with reasonable advance notice.
11. Photography and Media

I grant Legacy Boxing permission to take photographs and video during training, events, and competitions, and to use them for coaching review, promotion, social media, and the gym website, without payment. I understand I may withdraw this permission at any time by writing to realboxinglegacy@gmail.com, and that withdrawal applies to future use rather than to material already published.

12. Personal Property

Legacy Boxing is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property. Do not bring valuables to the gym.

13. Suspension and Termination of Membership

Legacy Boxing may suspend or terminate a membership for any breach of these rules, for conduct that endangers others, for non-payment of fees, or for behaviour that damages the reputation of the gym. Where a membership is terminated for cause, fees already paid are not refunded.

14. Guardian Consent for Members Under 18

Where the member is under 18, the parent or guardian signing this document confirms that they have the legal authority to do so, that they have read this document in full, and that they accept every section of it on the child’s behalf, including the assumption of risk and the release of liability.

15. Acknowledgement

I confirm that I have read this entire document, that I understand it is a release of legal rights, and that I am signing it freely. I confirm that the information I have provided on my registration form is true and complete. My typed signature on the registration form has the same effect as a handwritten signature.
